WELCOME TO RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
DAVIET has set up a Research Foundation to promote research capabilities under various areas of Engineering and Technology and other areas of national interest.
Eminent Scientists, Engineers, Academicians, Industrialists and Technologists from the prestigious institutions are associated with our research and development team. In the initial phase following segments have been identified for research activities
- Nano Technology
- Light Wave Technology System
- VLSI Design
- SEED Programme
- Wireless System Design
- Software Engineering
The overall goal of all the research segments is to provide the solution for global problems and to achieve them with comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach.
NANOTECHNOLOGY: DAVIET Research Centre was established in January 2008 to promote research in interdisciplinary area of Nanotechnology. The DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi provided seed money of Rs. 50 lakhs for the purchase of equipment and creating infrastructure.Universal Scanning Probe Microscope (Model NT-MDT Solver PRO M4) was imported from Russia and installed in August 2008. The Hind High Vacuum Thin Film coating unit was also installed in the same year.
The focus of the Nanoscience & Technology department of DAVIET is research and development of Nano materials. This department has facilities to synthesize the nanomaterials, having application in different fields such as Nanoelectronics, Optoelectronics and biotechnology, using hydrothermal method, Quenching method, sol-gel and chemical reduction method. In order to deposit the thin films of desired materials, department is equipped with thermal vapour deposition and SPIN COATING UNITS. This department is not only to perform the state of art research work, but also to educate the graduate students for a future work in Nanosceince & Technology.
OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS: DAVIET, Jalandhar is in the process of establishing a photonic education and research program. The program will include a new state-of-the-art facility for a laboratory on optical transmission and an advanced national training center to train technical teachers and researchers in the area of optical communications for India. RSoft has collaborated with DAVIET in establishing lightwave communication research laboratory at DAVIET by providing OptSim with 5 user license and is supporting our initiatives. Research and education in optical communications is very vital from an infrastructural point of view for an emerging economy like India. The laboratory on optical transmission is one of its kinds in India. RSoft has been very supportive of our efforts by not only providing photonics software and training at RSoft’s US headquarters, but also by arranging visits for us to the leading US university photonics centers such as those at Columbia University and Princeton University.
RSoft's Physical Layer Simulation Tools:
-- OptSIM™: Integrated Platform and Full Solution for Optical System Simulationwith unique twin simulation engine.
The System Simulation tools are used to drive and demonstrate performance improvement in optical links. These tools are produced and marketed by RSoft's Physical-Layer Division, with shared Network technical expertise in wavelength domain simulation. They are used by researchers and equipment designers and manufacturers all over the world.
ROBOTICS: The Robotics and Automation Laboratory is well equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment that includes indigenously designed and developed robots and high quality Festo-Didactic Hydraulic and Pneumatic Trainer kits. The laboratory provides training, guidance and mentorship to the institute students, conducts research towards the development and improvement of new generation robots, and maintains cooperation with industry in projects of mutual interest and benefit.
The major focus of research in this laboratory is on developing prototypes with greater intelligence and higher versatility for robotic tasks. The emphasis is on research activities in the areas ranging from autonomous guided vehicles for uneven terrains and walking robots, dynamic control of robot arm, adaptive and robust control, real-time control using PLC based card to development of obstacle avoidance modules.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING: This department is focusing its research work mainly on power quality, wind generation, induction generators, Robust Control Design, Optimization, Intelligent control techniques etc. The department is equipped with software simulation tool and hardware facilities in order to facilitate the PG students undergoing their research/ thesis work. The various licensed software available in Electrical Engineering Department are:
- MATLAB/ SIMULINK
- Electro Magnetic Transients Analysis Programme (ETAP)
- Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD)
MATLAB/ SIMULINK is intended primarily for numerical computing, the additional toolbox such as control system tool box, Simpower System tool box and DSP tool boxes are also available. SIMULINK adds graphical multi-domain simulation and Model-Based Design for dynamic and embedded systems. ETAP is the most comprehensive enterprise solution for design, simulation, operation, control, optimization, and automation of generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems. PSCAD is a general-purpose time domain simulation tool for studying transient behavior of electrical networks. The hardware facilities include three phase power quality analyzer (model 435) fluke make for power quality studies and a solar PV training setup suited for performing experiments related to construction, mode of operation, connecting and installation of solar PV -plants. It can be used both to the supplementary demonstration of lessons and courses as well as for the use in practical training.
The other areas identified for research in this department are:
- Power Quality, Induction Generator, Wind Generation
- Protection of transformers against overheating using optical fibre sensors.
- Eddy current analysis using finite element adaptive grids.
- Substation Grounding.
- Facts controller and robust control
- Harmonic distortion analysis in electrical distribution system.
