One Day Workshop, 05^th February, 2020

“Power Semiconductor Devices and their Applications”

 

DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology (DAVIET) has organized one day workshop on “Power Semiconductor Devices and their Applications” on 05^th February, 2020.This one day workshop was conducted by Department of Electrical Engineering for their students.

The workshop started with the introductory remarks by Dr Sudhir Sharma, HoD – EE Department. The objective of the workshop was to enhance knowledge among the students related to circuit designing using Breadboard.

Mr. Kamal Kishore delivered expert talk on issues in electrical engineering that can be solved with the help of Power Electronics. In the lab session the testing of power semiconductor devices was explained. Design aspects of circuit were also discussed. The workshop concluded with the design and assembly of working project.

With the joint effort of Mr. Kamal Kishore and Er. Rahul Sharma it proved to be of great success.

Expert talk on “Internet of Things”

 Expert talk on Internet of things (IoT) was delivered by Sh. Gaurav Sharma (Sr. Embedded Programmer and Designer) of ICF Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Jalandhar, to 3^rd year Electrical Engineering students on 04 October 2018, where they learned emerging trend on IoT. Students also learned about when “Internet of Things” was coined and how it penetrated the market in 2010. As of now IoT is rising exponentially and it is expected that more than 50 billion devices would be connected by 2020. IoT ecosystem which includes hardware, software, protocols and services were discussed and students learned about various IoT protocols and their applications including IoT hardware. In IoT hardware, different kind hardwares ranging from Raspberry Pi, Arduino Uno, ESP8266 based NodeMCU, wemos has been discussed in details. Popular IoT cloud services where data can send for storage and analysis was shown. Students participated in live demo where light connected to relay was controlled by Smartphone. Students learned about programming logic, writing style and readability of the code.

 

Workshop on: PLC & LIVE SCADA

SCADA is the acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. SCADA is a computer-based system for gathering and analyzing real-time data to monitor and control equipment that deals with critical and time-sensitive materials or events. SCADA systems were first used in the 1960s and are now an integral component in virtually all industrial plant and production facilities. SCADA system includes hardware and software components.

A PLC SCADA typically controls an entire industrial system. SCADA system monitors have to monitor thousands of sensors in system. Then various protocols are used to communicate data. In industries distributed SCADA is employed. SCADA found its applications in the following industries. Oil and Gas, Pipeline monitoring and control, Remote monitoring and control of production, pumping, and storage locations, Offshore platforms and onshore wells, Refineries, petro-chemical stations, Water and Wastewater, Water treatment centers and distribution, Wastewater collection and treatment facilities, Utilities, Electrical power distribution from gas-fired, coal, Nuclear, Electrical power transmission and distribution, Agriculture/ Irrigation, Manufacturing, Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Telecommunications, Transportation and many others.

So taking into consideration the importance of SCADA AND PLC M/s Automation systems conducted full day workshop on 12.09.18 at DAVIET Jalandhar on the TOPIC (PLC &LIVE SCADA) for 5th and 7th semester students. Dr. Sudhir Sharma (HoD – EE), Dr. ChintuRza (AP), Mr. Baljit Singh (AP), Mr. Mani Bansal (AP), Mr, Rahul Sharma (AP), Mr. Inderdeep Singh (AP) were present at the event.

This workshop is based on industrial automation include SCADA, AC Drives and PLC.A team of three resource persons from M/s Automation systemscame for the workshop.

Firstly faculty members thoroughly described Industrial Modules(PLC, HMI , SCADA, AC DRIVES)and then faculty interact with students regarding same modules (Questioning session) and then explained hardware kit in which PLC, HMI, AC Drives and SCADA are communicated with each other.

Lastly Live implementation of SCADA at customer site i.e. Pharma industry, which include BMS (Building Management System) and EMS (Energy Management System) integration system of their plant is also shown to the students.
